Maji was created to translate colours into an auditory experience for those who are unable to experience it as a visual phenomenon.
Everyone wants to experience colour. Whether you are visually impaired or sighted, colour plays a significant role in our daily lives.
There is a lack of inclusive design regarding the concept of colours for those who are blind, making it difficult for the sighted and the blind to express what they’re each experiencing to the other.
Provide a more inclusive system of communication for blind and sighted children to talk about colours
We began our research process by investigating the current state of those affected by either visual impairment or blindness and reached out to the following individuals and institutions that could provide us with insight.

We proposed a new translational language that matches the three artist’s primary colours (RYB) and black and white, with a pentatonic scale of musical notes.
Using this colour—sound language, users are able to mix colours to create new musical chords.
A series of five books, each installment explains a particular aspect of the colour—sound system (volume, brightness, colour mixing).
